Remembering Joel Karpoff

JOEL KARPOFF

Actor, Director
Long-time board member of
YCP TheaterWorks

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Joel Karpoff. Joel was scheduled to direct Suite Surrender for YCP TheaterWorks next fall. He was active in community theater for many decades. An actor and director, he shared his talents throughout Westchester.

Joel was a prolific director for YCPTW. His directorial credits include: Twelve Angry Men (2018), The Odd Couple

and Rumors (both 2016), Deathtrap (2015), California Suite and Come Blow Your Horn (both 2013), The Prisoner of Second Avenue (2011), Barefoot in the Park (2011) and Social Security (2010). His favorite roles as an actor were as Bobby in Company and Tevya in Fiddler on the Roof.  Joel starred in hundreds of shows at the Y in Riverdale and had a wonderful singing voice.

Known for his sardonic sense of humor, he was loved and admired for both his talent and honesty. He was a father figure to his casts, directing with respect for all while pulling out the best each had inside. Memorable for his turn of a phrase, his voice will be greatly missed.
