YCP TheaterWorks staged the World Premiere of
DIMINISHED CAPACITY
Written by Albi Gorn
YCP TheaterWorks was proud to present the world premiere production of Diminished Capacity by Albi Gorn and directed by Robin Anne Joseph. Performances were November 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 & 12 at Shrub Oak United Methodist Church’s Parish Hall.
In Diminished Capacity, a criminal defense lawyer is assigned to represent a young man who is at best only marginally guilty and may well be innocent. Along the way we meet other lawyers, a court reporter, a judge, a college professor, another defendant in the case, a student of the professor who is also a waitress, and a psychologist, all of whom, like in a Dickens novel, seem to have connections to everyone else. The cast included: Tom Ammirato, Bruce Apar, Melissa Chanza, Lourdes Laifer, Dianne Roxy Pennington, Fred Rueck, Steve Schnapper, Gary Simon, Donna L. White and Nadja Winter.

YCP TheaterWorks staged a Wendy Wasserstein Classic
THE SISTERS ROSENSWEIG
This play deals with the three Rosensweig sisters and their friends and families. It is a rich character driven play that is considered one of Wendy Wasserstein’s strongest. The play is set in the London home of the eldest sister, Sara. Most of the characters are from the Eastern portion of the United States (the sisters are from Brooklyn) and therefore that sort of sensibility permeates the play. The three sisters reunite to celebrate Sara’s birthday. It is also a solemn occasion. Their mother recently passed away. Due to her own illness, Sara was unable to visit her mother in America. The family reunion is the first time the three sisters have been together since their mother, Rita Rosensweig died.
Performances were March 16, 17, 22, 23 & 24 at the Shrub Oak United Methodist Church Parish Hall, 1176 East Main Street, Shrub Oak, NY 10588. YCP’s Production is directed by Richard Troiano and features the acting talents of: Daniel Arboleda, Kate Gleeson, Jerry Quinn, George Shepherd, Jacqueline Smith, Shelley Sperling, Stephanie Suozzo and Derek Tarson.
TWELVE ANGRY MEN
Adapted by Sherman L. Sergel. Based on the Emmy award-winning television movie by Reginald Rose and Directed by Joel Karpoff
A 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. It looks like an open-and-shut case—until one of the jurors begins opening the others’ eyes to the facts. “This is a remarkable thing about democracy,” says the foreign-born juror, “that we are notified by mail to come down to this place—and decide on the guilt or innocence of a person; of a man or woman we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing.” But personal it is, with each juror revealing his own character as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and the jurors become 12 angry men.
Performances were in June, 2018 at the Shrub Oak United Methodist Church Parish Hall, 1176 East Main Street, Shrub Oak, NY 10588.
YCP’s Production featured the acting talents of: Brian Bagot, Tom Campbell, Scott Faubel, Sean Latasa, Robert E. Molloy, Marshall Moseley, Jonathan Nelson, Rich Sheehy, Kenneth Skjeveland, Steven Sylvia, Tim Trewhella and Stephen Zerilli.
